Turnip Games

Pervasive Games in Seattle, Founded 2014

TURNIP GAMES IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT DESIGNS, RUNS, AND GETS SUPER EXCITED ABOUT PERVASIVE GAMING IN THE SEATTLE AREA: COME PLAY WITH US!

What Are Pervasive Games?
Pervasive games-- also known as live games-- are games where the gaming experience extends into the real world whether that involves running from enemies, interacting with performers, sneaking, strategizing, or what have you. They can contain elements of theater, sports, visual art, storytelling, dance, digital components, etc. *

*If you'd like to read some examples of what we're talking about please look at Ludocity.org. Specific game recommendations include: Checkpoint, The Man Who Was Thursday, and Ninja.

How Can I Get Involved?
Play!

Do you like being social with your gaming? Would you like to play games that expand your definition of what a game is? Come to our events and invite your friends and folks who might be interested in playing some newly designed pervasive games!

Design!
We are always looking for people who would be interested in creating a game for future events, if you're intrigued and you'd like to learn more- contact Casey.

Volunteer!
If you would like to help an event run smoothly or if you're interested in running a game (explaining the rules, making sure all the supplies are ready, and monitoring/aiding game play) this is the job for you! Contact Casey!

What Have We Done So Far?

Coming Soon: Game Jam #2

Game Day: Faeries In The Woods
6/13/14

Puck stole all of Titania's enchantments during the great Feather Fencing Tournament; and as a result war broke out between the Seelie and the Unseelie courts!

Mayhem, trolls, enchantments, running, and general silliness ensued. A great number of faeries wore costumes in spite of the rainy weather and that was delightful.

Partnership: Ready, Set, Go! A community resiliency event
12/2/16

Ready Set Go is a flight of playful games and activities designed to strengthen community ties, explore resiliency, and discover useful action. Participate through art, storytelling, teamwork, dancing, and more. Bring your friends! Meet some new ones! And leave feeling connected, empowered with a next step, and motivated to take it. Ready? Set? Go!

READY SET GO! is a part of FLINCH/PUNCH, a series of performances and events produced by Annex Theatre proposed by community artists as responses to the election.

Play Test: MEDIC!!!!

5/3/14

A game where you try to keep your city from being nuked by the CDC: collect peer reviewed papers so that you can start making vaccines and prevent the rest of the city from getting sick from diseases like tuberculosity and syssysyssysyssyssyssphytytys.

We ran 3 versions and had a great debrief with all of the players. We're 90% sure the game works now....

Game Day: Midsummer Mischief

9/1/2016

Puck promised Oberon more than he could deliver and so pressured the rest of the Midsummer faeries (Cobweb, Mustard Seed, Peaseblossom, and Moth) to gather their magic together and help him out. One problem? They've all forgotten how and need help to remember...

22 people in faerie finery solved puzzles and saved the day! Phew.

Game Jam: #1

4/12/14

31 people joined us for an afternoon of 5 games by 4 different designers: Tapestry- a community storytelling game; Schooner or Later- an East India Company trading game (with opium smuggling!); Lemon Jousting; Johann Sebastian Joust; and ITR games.

They were all awesome and totally fun! Thanks for coming out!

Thanks to everyone who ran games and contributed
