Baba Yaga, The StoryThis project was possible because of a research and development fellowship for
young artists through the Barbican/Guildhall Creative Learning Pit Theatre LAB programme. I wanted to explore what it would take to have an audience member feel like they were the protagonist of a folk tale. Specifically a folk tale in which they had a task, a responsibility, and some grave danger to face. The Slavic tales of Baba Yaga, a witch with iron teeth who lives deep in the forest in a cottage with chicken legs, were the obvious choice. The firebird and her precious eggs is a reccurring character in these tales, so in order to experience Baba Yaga, The Game-- you must protect the Firebird's eggs from Baba Yaga while making your way through the forest. |
